Information Events

In 2025, we organised 22 information events to raise awareness of intellectual property among companies, creative professionals, and authors, attended by more than 1,400 participants. 12 events were held on site and 10 virtually.

The largest event of the year was the ‘Trade Mark and Design Awards 2024’, where the title of Trade Mark of the Year was awarded to Lumiorava, and the title of Design of the Year to Snoller’s adjustable-wheeled sledge.

The Estonian Patent Office’s first-ever Strategy Day, held in October, brought together entrepreneurs, representatives of business organisations and universities, patent attorneys, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and staff from the Estonian Patent Office. The day was chaired by Ilona Leib, from PR Partner.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, we organised an information day on geographical indications in November, where, in addition to agricultural geographical indications, we introduced new geographical indications for handicrafts and industrial products.

In January, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), we jointly organised a high-level conference in Tallinn, where the results of the mentoring programme for spin-off companies within the Baltic Technology Transfer Network (Baltic TTO Network) were presented. The conference marked the conclusion of a nine-month mentoring programme, during which participants from universities and research institutions in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia acquired valuable knowledge in intellectual property management and the development of spin-off companies.

The traditional webinars introducing various types of intellectual property also continued. Once again, copyright proved to be the most popular topic: over the course of the year, three webinars were held, focusing on copyright and artificial intelligence. In the field of trade marks, we organised two seminars offering advice on selecting and protecting a strong trade mark. We addressed the protection options for product designs and inventions in webinars on design and utility models.

Intellectual Property Day was dedicated to the broader theme of intellectual property. Those interested had the chance to test their knowledge in a trade mark quiz and gain useful insights at a webinar, where patent attorney Maria Silvia Martinson and Lilian Promet, founder of Snoller OÜ, shared tips.

In cooperation with educational institutions, we organised seminars for Põltsamaa Co-educational Gymnasium, Tallinn Open School, and St John’s School. We also paid special attention to student inventors and student companies, introducing them to the importance of protecting their intellectual property in cooperation with the Estonian Research Council and Junior Achievement Estonia. In the summer, we also took part in organising the first regional intellectual property youth camp for the Baltic states, which took place in Latvia and brought together 32 young innovators from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. In cooperation with WIPO, we awarded the special prize of the Estonian Patent Office and WIPO at the National Contest of Young Inventors, which was won by Karmen Roht, a Year 6 pupil at Jakobsoni School, in Viljandi, for her invention ‘Naglitallad’. We were also represented at Customs Day at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, where we spoke to students about intellectual property rights in relation to counterfeit goods.

For several years running, we also took part in Tallinn Entrepreneurship Day, where we explained to entrepreneurs the importance of consciously protecting their intellectual property and what value creates for companies. We discussed how to protect products, trade marks and other distinctive solutions. For the first time, we were also represented at the Beauty Professionals Information Day, where we spoke on the same topics and explained why it is important to protect one’s brand and creative contributions in the beauty sector.

Meetings with patent attorneys were held in the spring and autumn round tables, which also included participation from the Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs.
